I use peerGuardian 1.6b2 on a MacBook Pro running 10.6.3. No matter what I do, I still can't unblock legitimate websites like netflix, hulu, and turbotax. Is there a fix?

Its not a bug you are simply not allowing the list/IPs correctly.

What is the correct way? I was under the impression that I merely had to put in the website address. How do I obtain the IP's for those sites?

In PeerGuardian list manager you are entering hulu.com for example?

Yes. Actually, I'm writing the entire URL (e.g., http://www.netflix.com/). I've also tried using the PG name look-up and entering the IP address. In either case, I still cannot access certain sites,

@ hokeger

You need to give PG OSX a URL or local file that is a properly formatted IP list and configure that as an allow list.

What you are telling PG OSX to do by what you have been doing is to download an IP list from http://www.netflix.com and that does nothing because http://www.netflix.com is not a properly formatted IP list or any IP list at all.

I'm a bit confused. Firstly, I am under the impression that http://www.netflix.com/ is indeed a proper URL, isn't it?
Secondly, PG 1.6b2 does not allow me to enter IP addresses (I tried and got a message "Not Supported").
Thirdly, when using a local file, where would I have obtained these IP address ranges?
It would be helpful if you could just explain how I can unblock a specific web site (lets use netflix as an example).

Create a txt file.
Add "netflix:208.75.76.0-208.75.79.255"
Import that file as an allow list.

If you still cant figure it out then you need to look at the PG OSX documentation and/or contact PG OSX support.
Sorry but teaching people how to use 3rd party software is outside of the scope of support I can provide.

Sorry for bothering you. I did read the PG OSX documentation and I posted the issue on the PG web site forum prior to posting on this web site, to no avail. Even your suggestions did not work (i.e., importing the IP addresses as a text file). I am not a neophyte, I was just hoping that you (or anyone) may have experienced this and had a fix for it. I think this is either a real bug with PG 1.6b2, or just an example of the worst user guide I have ever read.

I don't mean to be rude and I agree the PG OSX documentation is no good.

I still suspect you are configuring the list list incorrectly rather then it being a bug.
It is also possible that you have not allowed all the necessary ranges.

I don't know enough about PG OSX to be able to help you more then pointing you in the right direction.

Hokeger, I would recommend installing Growl for Mac OS X. I believe the current version is 1.2 and you can get it straight from Apple.com if you so desire. Growl is a notification program that runs in your system preferences and will tell you when a site is blocked. Simply click on that notification when it pops and choose how long you would like to allow said site....actually I should be saying "IP" instead of "site" because the setup can be quite annoying at first and you may have to allow hundreds of IP's at first to get it where you want it. I never found a way to do it in bulk, but it isn't bothersome anymore anyway.
This, from what I have found, is the best way to personalize the lists to your own preferences.
